Street and entry
Wall, planting and steps shape the approach.
Completed 2010 · Architectural Design
Next to 1160 McClellan, this residence shares the site’s steep street context while opening its living spaces to a private garden and outdoor rooms.

A companion on the street
1170 and 1160 McClellan were both built in 2010. Shahram Shokoufandeh was the architect for 1170. Its street frontage holds a clear boundary for privacy, while the garden side opens through large glass walls to terraces, planting and a shaded dining court.
Inside, the tall living volume, kitchen and dining spaces connect to the landscape. The photographs trace this progression from the street and entry to the garden and upper rooms.
Wall, planting and steps shape the approach.
Glass, terrace and pergola extend daily life outside.
Open living spaces connect across levels and toward the garden.
